If you have a counter surfer, this tip is for you!

I've had many dogs in my life; some very well behaved, some not so much. But in all my dog experience, I have NEVER had a counter surfer...until now.

I stumbled upon this handy tip and I have to say...it works!

All you need:

  • 4-5 empty soda cans

  • Yarn or string

  • Pennies

  • An enticing treat

Take about 3 pennies and add to each empty can. Use your yarn to tie each of the cans together using the flip tabs at the top. Be sure to leave about a foot of extra yarn after you've tied on the last can. Grab your treat (this is the bait) and tie the extra yarn around it tightly and let the treat hang over the edge of the counter, just a bit, keeping the cans a little further back.

When your pup takes the treat, they will also get the cans and a whole lot of racket. Not saying that it is decisive on the first try. It took my pup 2 rounds and then she decided the treat wasn't worth all the noise and chaos. The third time I set the bait, it stayed out for several days without being touched.

Is my pup cured of counter surfing? So far, so good but I'll keep putting the bait out from time to time just to make sure.

Hope you find this useful.
